07.09.10: Positive review of Prof. Bouillon`s new book

The "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, F.A.Z.", one of Germany's highest-profile newspapers published a quite positive review titled "Logische Wirtschaftsethik". "Seinem selbstgesetzten Ziel wird Hardy Bouillon mit seiner Abhandlung über Wirtschaftsethik ohne Frage gerecht. Mit dem Satz: "Wenn diese Arbeit einen Anstoß zur vertieften Reflexion über die Grundlagen der Wirtschaftsethik gibt, dann ist genau das erreicht, was der Autor erhofft, und mehr als er erwartet", beschließt Bouillon seinen Text, und er kann nach Maßgabe seines eigenen Anspruchs zufrieden auf die getane Arbeit zurückschauen. Wer "Wirtschaft, Ethik und Gerechtigkeit" gelesen hat, kann sich sicher sein, in die erkenntnistheoretischen Abgründe der Wirtschaftsethik geblickt und sie systematisch ausgeleuchtet zu haben - zumindest wenn man sich der Lichtquelle des kritischen Rationalismus in Gefolge von Karl Popper und Hans Albert anvertraut, die einem Bouillon an die Hand gibt."

In his FAZ-review ("Logical Business Ethics. Hardy Bouillon wrote a work worth reading") of September 7, 2010, Nils Goldschmidt (Professor at the Bundeswehr University of Munich) resumes that Hardy Bouillon undoubtedly has achieved what he aimed for in his book. He who has read "Business, Ethics, and Justice" could be assured to have a systematic criticism of the epistemological chasms of business ethics. To Goldschmidt the message of the book is clear. Norms are not the starting point of business ethics. They have to be pit against the concept of formal justice, and he quotes: "A moral economic action is formally just if it does not unjustified obstruct another in the use of his liberties, and unjust if it unjustified obstructs another in the use of his liberties." Despite all agreement with the author, what the reviewer misses though is the link that brings the logical analysis and the complex reality of business ethics together.
